Organizational effectiveness and leadership competencies through employee attitude, opinion and satisfaction surveys by ISR

Reporting: Key to Unlocking Value from the Data

Employee surveys – especially those involving tens of thousands of employees in multiple countries – can generate enormous amounts of raw data. The first step in turning these results into action and improvement is reporting. By transforming the raw data into meaningful information, good reporting will start to shape your organization’s understanding of what your workforce is thinking and feeling.

Since your organization’s reporting requirements and preferences are different from everyone else’s, Towers Perrin-ISR offers a variety of flexible reporting solutions: basic reporting, interactive report browsing, dynamic custom reporting, and our survey document library facility.

Basic Reporting: Towers Perrin-ISR's Survey Processing & Reporting system (SPAR)
We believe that reporting should enhance our clients' ability to interpret survey results. With this in mind, Towers Perrin-ISR created SPAR, a custom-built system that efficiently processes survey data and increases the timeliness and usability of the survey insights. SPAR produces a variety of time-tested information views that help managers begin to see the “story” that emerges from the data. SPAR reports can be delivered on paper or electronically as Adobe Acrobat® PDF files.

Interactive report browsing
Paper and PDF reports have one drawback: because they are static, they can be difficult to use when the volume of information is large. To address this shortcoming we developed a revolutionary reporting tool built on top of Microsoft® Excel that we call XL Reports. With XL Reports you can directly and instantly navigate to the specific information view you want, and even automatically build custom PowerPoint® slide presentations from any view. XL Reports gives managers a powerful way to understand and communicate employee survey results with a tool they already know and use every day.

New! See an automated demo of XL Reports. [Note: Requires Macromedia Flash; if you do not already have it installed, it is available for free here.]

For the power user: dynamic custom reporting
You may have certain individuals who want to be able to build their own specialized views of the data to answer very specific questions. ISRInter@ctive® is a Web-based tool that allows them to do just that. Using “wizards” developed by Towers Perrin-ISR, users can define their own reporting groups and create results and comparison reports on demand.

Comments: A rich source of insight
Sometimes overlooked with the emphasis on quantitative data is the richness that comes from the direct, open-ended comments written by employees. These comments can clarify and amplify the numbers, putting the “humanity” back into a process that is, after all, about understanding people.

Information is only useful if you can find it when you need it
Imagine a manager preparing for a meeting with her employees to discuss the recent companywide employee opinion survey. She will have a variety of objectives for this meeting, and will want to tailor the presentation to her audience. In addition to her own department’s results, some of the points she may also want to cover include the following:

  • Reasons the company undertook the survey
  • Overall corporate results and comparisons with the prior year’s survey
  • Comparisons with similar departments or groups within the company
  • Highlights of a recent results presentation given by the CEO to senior management
  • An overview of the corporate action-planning process and how it will be adapted for her department

Where will she find all of this, especially given the short time frame in which she has to pull all of this information together? She could start firing off e-mails, making calls, or searching her computer’s hard drive. Or, if her company were using ISR@ccess® she could easily go to a complete electronic library of every shared document available across that company that is relevant to the survey results.
